Cyber Monday VPN 2026: NordVPN vs Surfshark, Which Deal Fits You?

Both brands already show Black Friday banners. Here is how to read the fine print before November 30, using only what each company publishes.

If you want the lowest bill for the next two years, Surfshark's listed 2-year price was lower on October 30, 2026. If you want a published renewal price, longer audit history, and a fixed 10-device plan, NordVPN gives you more to verify up front. Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026, and both companies were already running Black Friday banners a month early.

We have not tested either service. Every price and policy below comes from the companies' own pricing, terms, and help pages, opened on October 30, 2026. Holiday prices can change daily, so recheck the checkout page before you pay.

Where the 2026 deals stand right now

As of October 30, neither company had announced a dated Cyber Monday 2026 offer. What both had was a live "Black Friday" label on the regular pricing page.

Surfshark's pricing page carried a banner reading "Grab our Black Friday deal here" and tagged its One plan as the Black Friday deal. No end date was shown. NordVPN's pricing page promoted a Black Friday offer of up to 78% off plus 3 extra months. Its coupon page, separately, said only that NordVPN "runs deals around events and occasions such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday."

That means the prices below are what you could buy on October 30. They are not a promise of what Cyber Monday will look like. Treat any banner as a snapshot, not a schedule.

How to judge any VPN deal in five checks

The headline discount is the least useful number on a VPN pricing page. It is usually calculated against the monthly price, which few people pay for long. These five checks tell you what you will actually spend.

1. Plan length and bonus months. Divide the first-term total by the real number of months. A "2-year" plan with 3 bonus months is 27 months of service, billed once.
2. Renewal price after the intro term. This is the price that repeats. If a pricing page does not print it, find it in the terms or ask support before paying.
3. Money-back guarantee terms. Check which purchases qualify. App store, reseller, gift card, and renewal payments are often handled differently.
4. Device limit. Count phones, laptops, tablets, TVs, and any router you plan to use. A VPN router typically uses one connection for everything behind it.
5. Bundled add-ons. Antivirus, data removal, password managers, and identity insurance raise the tier price. Decide whether you would buy them separately before letting them pick your plan.

Listed prices on October 30, 2026

NordVPN publishes three tiers: Basic, Complete, and Prime. Surfshark publishes Starter, One, and One+. Here are the 2-year prices each company showed on the day we checked.

On the day we checked, Surfshark Starter and One carried the same 2-year price. That makes One, which adds security tools, the obvious pick within Surfshark if the price holds.

Shorter terms

NordVPN's 1-year plans also included 3 bonus months. Basic was $74.85 for the first 15 months, Complete $89.85, and Prime $134.85. Each then renewed at the same yearly rates as the 2-year plans. Monthly billing was $14.99, $19.99, and $29.99.

Surfshark's page had a toggle for 12-month and 1-month terms, but the captured page showed prices only for the 24-month option. Check the toggle yourself on checkout day.

The renewal math most deal pages skip

NordVPN is one of the few brands that prints its renewal price next to the plan. That lets you calculate a real multi-year cost.

Take NordVPN Basic. The 2-year plan costs $94.23 for 27 months. If you let it renew once, you pay $139.08 more for the next 12 months. That is $233.31 for 39 months of service.

Now compare the 1-year plan over the same first 27 months. You pay $74.85 for 15 months, then $139.08 at renewal. That totals $213.93 for 27 months, more than double the 2-year plan's $94.23. The longer plan wins clearly, as long as you are confident you will keep using it.

Surfshark's terms say paid services "renew automatically at the end of each service period." Renewal is charged at the "applicable renewal price," which the pricing page did not list. The terms add that Surfshark will email you before an automatic renewal if your subscription is longer than one month.

Refunds, devices and add-ons compared

Both companies advertise a 30-day money-back guarantee. The details differ in ways that matter if you pay through an app store or with a gift card.

If you plan to buy through an iPhone, buy on the web instead when you want NordVPN's own refund process. Apple decides App Store refunds under its own rules.

Documented features, audits and testing

What each tier includes

NordVPN Basic covers the VPN, scam and phishing protection, 10 devices, and dark web monitoring for 5 emails. Complete adds antivirus, ad and tracker blocking, a password manager, 1 TB of encrypted cloud storage, and wider monitoring. Prime adds $1 million identity theft insurance, cyber extortion insurance, and credit monitoring.

Surfshark's One page lists the VPN, Alternative ID, Antivirus, Alert, Search, and Clean Web. One+ adds Incogni, a data-broker removal service. Surfshark's FAQ describes Starter as the plan without those upgrades, although the plan cards were inconsistent when we checked.

NordVPN lists a kill switch, Meshnet for private device-to-device networks, Double VPN, Onion over VPN, obfuscated servers, and dedicated IPs. Its feature page cites "225+ locations worldwide."

Independent audits

Ownership and jurisdiction: one group, two brands

Choosing between NordVPN and Surfshark is not choosing between rival companies. In February 2022, NordVPN announced a merger agreement between Nord Security and Surfshark. The announcement said the brands would "continue to operate autonomously" with separate infrastructure and product roadmaps.

Surfshark's About page describes the result as a merger with Nord Security "under one holding company" in 2022. Nord Security's own 2023 funding announcement says it "formed a group of companies" with Surfshark.

One inconsistency is worth knowing. NordVPN's support article says its parent company is based in the Netherlands. Its About page says Nord Security is headquartered in Lithuania. Both are NordVPN's own pages.

Shared ownership matters if you were buying one to diversify away from the other. Running both gives you two apps and two infrastructures, but not two independent companies.

Which deal fits you

This verdict follows from the published terms, not from hands-on testing.

• Pick Surfshark One if you have many devices, want the lowest listed 2-year total, and are comfortable that the renewal price is not printed on the pricing page.
• Pick NordVPN Basic if you want to know the renewal figure before you pay, ten devices is enough, and you value a longer run of published no-logs assessments.
• Pick NordVPN Complete only if you would otherwise pay for a password manager, encrypted storage, or antivirus. Its renewal is $80.40 a year more than Basic.
• Skip both tiers' insurance add-ons unless you have read the coverage terms. Identity insurance has its own conditions.
